Folklife 2006

We intended to go to Folklife on Sunday this year, but it poured all morning, so we chickened out and went Monday instead. Monday turned out to be a beautiful day, and Ben had fun listening to, dancing to, and playing music. Well, playing drums and shakers. Listening and dancing to Marimba, Taiko, Cajun/Zydeco, Brazilian, Andean, and various other bluegrass, folk and African music. He was so exhausted he slept through most of dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant in Seattle! (We saved him some tofu and green beans.)

At the beach

We went to the beach last Sunday, a different beach. This one has a really shallow bay and lots of nice sand, so much more appropriate for a kid to play and paddle. The weather was lovely and the water wasn’t even too cold.

More from Northern Ireland

A few more from our trip. While we there, we took a short trip to the Lake District in England. And it snowed. Probably more snow than Ben has ever seen in Seattle.

Ben with cousin Garrett

These are from our trip to Northern Ireland in March. In less than two weeks, we were in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. Ben had lots of fun with his grandparents, and met his cousin Garrett for the second time (the first time that he remembers, though, since he was only five months old last time). He still asks for “Gar-deet” quite regularly. I think he had fun.

Getting good pictures of the two of them together proved slightly challenging though.

Little Drummer Boy

We have several hand drums around the house, and Ben loves to play them. This little wooden ashiko is the perfect size for him, and he actually plays it pretty well!

The Park

We recently discovered an amazing playground at a community park near our new house — less than a 5 minute drive away. We’ve been a few times and Ben loves it. (Loves most of it, at least. He’s a little less than thrilled with the walkways that move.) I think we’ll be going there regularly when the weather’s good this summer.

Green Tractor

While we were in Virginia visiting Eric’s parents recently, Ben got to play on a more appropriately sized green tractor that used to be his dad’s. He’s not quite big enough to make it go on his own, but he still had lots of fun with it.

Lellow Tractor

Ben loves tractors. LOVES them. We saw one at the beach on Sunday, looking mostly abandoned, so we let him climb in it. Then he turned on something that clicked, so we decided it was time to go. He was not happy about that.

Mother’s Day 2006

Here are a few photos from yesterday, and a couple of older ones thrown in at the end. You might notice he’s had a haircut since then. 🙂
