Friday Walk in the Woods

Despite waking up to rain, we went for our walk in the woods this morning anyway. I’m trying to make it a weekly habit, right? Yeah. Didn’t work so well today.

Timothy was not interested in walking very far. He kept just stopping and glaring at me. I ended up carrying him for most of it. The second photo’s pretty blurry, but it really illustrates his look of “I am not amused by this” very effectively.

Ben, on the other hand, was having a blast jumping in mud puddles because we actually put his welly boots on today instead of hiking boots. Welly boots mean you can jump and splash to your heart’s content, and boy did he! Once we got past all the fun mud puddles, though, he was tired of walking and just wanted to be back at the car.

By the time we got to the car, Timothy was asleep again in the vest-carrier that I made when he was a baby (it’s still the easiest in/out and least bulky carrier I have!). (Photo by Ben.)

And Ben was muddy. Thank goodness for the rainpants!

Just pictures

Sharing a snack at the little table. They had exactly the same thing on their plates, but Timothy’s was cut up smaller. Guess who kept standing on his chair, leaning across the table and grabbing food from his brother’s plate? Yep. Gotta have the big boy food.

Ben was having great fun hosing down the patio the other day. Then he started hosing down the sliding door to the playroom. (It was closed, thankfully.) That was fun from the inside… felt like we were in a carwash or something.

And lastly… why yes, we do keep our strollers on the table. Don’t you?

Outside

IMG_2044

Outside this afternoon. Daddy was using his chainsaw, so the boys were standing well back. I think Ben might have been making sure Timothy stayed well back, but it’s a sweet picture whatever his reasoning was.

Reading

Timothy loves to climb into this little armchair and read a book. It’s just the right size to curl up in. He does this at least once every day, I think.

The Woods

It was snowing, but we decided to go for a walk in the woods anyway. It’s never quite as drippy in the woods as elsewhere, just soggy and muddy. And soggy and muddy is fun for boys.

Timothy walked a good half of it on his own.

Ben is very interested in fallen over root systems and large tree stumps. And climbing.

They took a little convincing to pose together….

IMG_1996

Then Timothy got tired and actually said “up!”

IMG_2000

But I wasn’t quite quick enough….

I want to make this a Friday morning habit if we can. If we can do it when it’s snowing in March, we can do it in any weather! It’ll be fun to notice the differences in the woods as the seasons change.

Playdough

IMG_1937

We made playdough using a new recipe this time. In the past, we’ve always done a cooked version, using cream of tartar and loads of salt. This time, since we had Kool-aid in the house (no, not for drinking! from a silk-dyeing experiment I just described on my other, non-baby blog), we did the no-cook Kool-aid playdough. It was a pretty different texture — squishier, softer, a bit stickier, less gritty. And it smelled yummy. They both had a lot of fun with it.

Little Artist

Timothy loves the chalk board. This was all his own work. Grass? Trees? Just lines for the sake of lines? He was very focused for a while. Til he started throwing all the chalk on the floor and eating it.

Looks Like a Different Kid

Timothy got his first haircut this afternoon. It had been well past his eyes and starting to look like it was annoying him. So during his afternoon nap I trimmed the front and a little over the ears. He looks so different! (And his hair is amazingly different than Ben’s to cut.)

IMG_1909

Unfortunately, the other difference you might notice is his upper lip. He had a couple of run-ins with a kid-sized wheelbarrow this afternoon. First Ben rammed it into his tummy and knocked him over, then while I was discussing with Ben why that was not a nice thing to do, Timothy climbed into the wheelbarrow and it tipped him out onto his face on the concrete. Poor kid. He has such a fat lip, but once it stopped bleeding and I gave him some Tylenol (he got less than half of it in him, the rest he wiped all over his face — it works topically, too, right?) he was back to his normal chirpy self. He even ate a fair amount of dinner.

I’m sure he’ll recover quickly and then we’ll get a better picture of his hair.

No excuses

Sorry for the long gap in posting. Busy, sick, technical issues. Writer’s block. Cute boys who want attention. 🙂

We’ve been busy in the garden, clearing out brambles and gorse, rototilling, and planting — fruit trees and vegetable seeds. It looks pretty amazingly different back there compared to when we moved in.

The boys love being outside, both of them.

IMG_1818

Ben was actually sick in this photo — hence the pajamas with the wellies — but he still wanted to be outside watching. (And yes, he’s sitting on a tree stump, the remains of the tree in the background behind him. We cut it down with the help of a neighbor a few weeks ago.) He usually wants to be doing exactly what we’re doing, exactly where we’re doing it. Then he needs help. 🙂 He’s had a great time shovelling compost, getting completely black and filthy, and of course he has his own bed in the vegetable garden with a little of everything in it.

IMG_1802

Timothy just wanders around clutching a child-size yellow rake. He loves that thing, it’s so funny. He doesn’t do anything with it, he just walks around holding it and stops and stands and looks very farmer-ish.

I’m trying

I’m trying to upload more pictures, but my camera’s software has started freaking out and giving me weird error messages and I’m trying to use the old version of iPhoto that’s on my computer but I’m just getting grumpy over technology and workflow. Bah.

Pictures of last week’s snow coming soon, though. One way or another.
